14 Fall Engagement And Culture Ideas For The Workplace

Fall has a definite aesthetic appeal to it — maybe more so than other seasons! Vibrant red, yellow, and orange leaves cover the trees, and pumpkin spice lattes show up on coffee shop menus again. Plus, football is back on TV, and sweaters and jackets emerge from the back of the closet.

14 Fall Engagement And Culture Ideas For The Workplace

Along with all the fun and exciting fall activities, though, it’s also the busiest season of the year for most businesses. That means your teams are going to need to come together to both work hard and blow off steam. Luckily, you can take advantage of numerous seasonal activities and build your company culture at the same time. Here’s a list to get you started!

Have A Fall Bonfire And Roast Some S’mores.

Bonfires are a staple of any crisp fall evening, and s’mores should be a staple of any bonfire. So, get your employees together for an evening of graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate for a toasty, delicious time. If you really want to spice up your s’mores, use a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup in place of a chocolate bar!

Take Everyone To The Nearest Apple Orchard.

If you can find an orchard near the city you and your employees call home, apples await. Get out on a cool fall day to wander between the trees, get some fresh air, and pick some delectable apples. You can even use them to make cider later on!

Have A Pumpkin Decorating Contest.

You can do this one from home or at the office! Gather at the office (or over Zoom) to carve, paint, and light up a jack-o’-lantern for a small prize. Then, everyone can share pictures of their masterpieces on display from their front porches!

Volunteer For A Worthy Cause.

As temperatures drop, many members of our communities, particularly the homeless, have a harder time weathering the elements. However, plenty of organizations help the neediest among us provide for themselves and their loved ones. Volunteering for these organizations is a great way to bond as a team and do some good in the process.

Get Lost In A Corn Maze.

What better team-building exercise is there than getting lost in a corn maze together and trying to find your way out? You can have fun and practice problem solving with one another, all in a way that’s unique to fall!

Go On A Nature Hike.

In most parts of the country, fall is the prettiest time of year to wander through nearby forests. If you have a nice overlook, climb to the viewpoint and admire the colorful trees dotting the city. You’ll gain a new appreciation for the city you live and work in as well as the people you share it with.

Have An Ugly Fall Sweater Party.

Christmas doesn’t have a monopoly on ugly sweaters. Search your closet, your parent’s attic, or the nearest Goodwill, and you’ll find something amazingly ugly to wear. You can show it off on a Zoom call with your employees or at an in-person office party. I mean, who wouldn’t love the opportunity to find some woolen monstrosity dotted with pumpkins and turkeys?

Plan An Employee Hayride.

This is a fun event for your employees and their families. Do some web research and see if any parks or farms in the area host fall hayrides. A lovely jaunt through the picturesque countryside will be enjoyed by all.

Make Caramel Apples.

Bring your employees and their families together to make yet another treat that incorporates so many delicious elements of the season. Fall is the time for apples, and a crisp one covered in sweet, gooey caramel is tough to pass up!

Celebrate Oktoberfest.

Alright, this is one for just the grown-ups. Starting at the end of September and running into October, you and your employees can celebrate Oktoberfest with some warm, freshly baked pretzels and beer tastings. Whether you keep it simple or go whole hog on the Bavarian aesthetic, your employees are sure to appreciate this frothy, hoppy fall diversion.

Conduct Meetings Outdoors.

After a long, hot summer that probably left even your A/C unit exhausted, outdoor meetings can help everyone stay focused. Also, taking the opportunity to enjoy a few cool fall days before plunging into the dead of winter is invigorating. Let the fresh air awaken your mind!

Plan A Spirit Week.

Fall is also back-to-school season. Even though you’re not in school anymore, this is a chance for you and your employees to show off their school spirit. Wear letterman’s jackets, school hoodies, and maybe even display senior photos on desks.

Have A Potluck Tailgate.

Part of enjoying fall really is all about the food, isn’t it? Pick a day to have your whole office and their families bring in a favorite fall dish. If it’s nice enough, you can do it outside!

Have A Costume Contest.

What would fall be without a Halloween costume contest? That could mean dressing up at the office or signing in for a quick Zoom call to show off your costume! Either way, you and your employees can show off your costume-making skills in hopes of winning a fun prize!

Regardless of how you bring your employees together this fall, put a few events on the calendar! You’re guaranteed to grow closer as a team and weather the busy season as a more cohesive unit!
